Lost GoPro Found Two Years Later With Incredible Footage Of The Earth From Space

Here’s something cool that happened when five friends decided to launch a weather balloon equipped with a GoPro, camcorder, and cell phone over Arizona. After building the device, calculating its trajectory, and registering it with the FAA, the five friends sent it out into the desert. For a while, they were able to track the balloon using GPS and their attached smartphone. Sadly, they lost contact with their weather balloon when it floated too far out of range. Months went by and the group continued to wonder where their balloon ended up. Interestingly enough, a hiker spotted the balloon 50 miles from its

400-Year-Old Bonsai Tree That Survived Hiroshima Bombings And Still Continues To Grow

This 395-year-old Japanese white pine bonsai tree has survived the massive devastation caused by an atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. The remarkable tree was planted in 1625 and has witnessed tremendous world events you only read about in textbooks. While it currently resides at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., it was gifted to the United States by bonsai master Masaru Yamaki in 1976 who, along with his family — and the bonsai tree, was located safely indoors just two miles away from where the bomb dropped in August of 1945. The family was miraculously left unharmed and

New Species Of Mushroom Discovered In Taiwan And It Looks Absolutely Magical

Eric Cho, a pharmacist, discovered a mysterious mushroom species near Zhishan Road in Taipei City’s Shilin District, with the help of his friend, who informed him of a “special tiny mushroom” along the Bixi Trail. Cho identified the mushroom as possibly being Mycena subcyanocephala, after noticing its drab grayish-white color, but continued to care for it, hoping to see it glow at night. He sprayed the fungus daily to keep it moist, and after more than three months, he noticed a new spawn with a spectacular blue color. Cho later discovered that the blue color only appears in the young

Scientists Identify A Giant Sunfish Larva For The First Time And It’s Absolutely Adorable

For the first time, scientists are catching a glimpse of what one of the largest species in the ocean looks like in infancy. For a long time, the larva of Giant Sunfish was relatively obscure to scientists, and anyone who had an interest in them. The Mola alexandrini, one of three mola species, starts off the size of popcorn and grows to be upwards of 4,000 pounds and nearly 10 feet in length. Located in the waters of Australia, the bump-head sunfish spends most of its life in the depths of the ocean or sunbathing on its surface. Thanks to scientists

Amazing Close-Up Of The First Mechanical Gear Ever Found In Nature

Scientists have discovered gears in an insect. It turns out the gears you find in bikes and cars aren’t really a manmade invention. The mechanisms of biology are absolutely fascinating. As you observe juvenile planthoppers (Genus: Issus) in the photographs and videos below notice how all of its hind leg joints work in perfect unison. You may think you’re looking at mechanical gears in a watch or something at first, but it’s actually the animal’s legs that are perfectly synchronized as it jumps into action. “This precise synchronization would be impossible to achieve through a nervous system, as neural impulses would take

Woman Discovers Rare Crystal That Looks Like A Giant Fried Chicken Tender

We’ve written a few really cool articles in the past about rare crystals and gemstones. But nothing quite like this crystal discovered by Amelia Rude that looks like a delicious piece of fried chicken. Rude runs a gemstone jewelry business called Unbeadable Energies, which has a vast collection of over 700 crystals. When she decided to post her discovery on Reddit’s @forbiddensnacks it was swiftly identified as Red Calcite and went viral on Twitter. According to Feel Crystals, “Red Calcite is a vital stone that increases energy and willingness to experience life. It is grounding and protects energetic and emotional boundaries, alleviating ‘spaciness’ and overextension of

James Webb Space Telescope Captures Rare Star On The Brink Of Going Supernova

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has captured an image of a Wolf-Rayet star that is expected to go supernova soon. The star, located in the constellation Carina about 20,000 light-years away, is known as WR 124. Wolf-Rayet stars are massive and luminous stars that are in the final stages of their lives. WR 124 is estimated to have a mass of around 25 times that of the sun and is one of the brightest stars in the Milky Way. It is also surrounded by a nebula, which is a cloud of dust and gas that was ejected by the star’s

Forget Coffins! This Company Will Turn You Into Beautiful Diamond Creations When You Die

Algordanza is a Swiss startup company that’s reinventing the wheel when it comes to memorial keepsakes made from the ashes of deceased loved ones. The company uses cremated human remains to create memorial diamonds that can be worn conveniently wherever you go. As it stands, diamonds are simply pressurized carbon atoms that are baked and then squeezed from underneath the earth’s mantle using extreme pressure and heat. Human bodies are around 20 percent carbon which allows Rinaldo Willy, founder of Algordanza, to use a unique process that grows synthetic diamonds. Although the service appears geared towards the upper classes, Willy claims a

15 Drops Of Seawater Magnified 25 Times Looks Completely Fascinating

If you visit the beach this summer, we hope you’re careful in the water. It’s not because it’s harmful but the ocean, after all, is an ocean and there are plenty of organisms alive in a single drop of seawater. With every gulp or splash of water in your eye, there are tons of tiny ecosystems you could accidentally ingest. This picture by David Littschwager shows what a single drop of ocean seawater is comprised of. It looks like a lot is going in a single drop, doesn’t it? What’s in it is typical of what you’ll find in the ocean: from
