When the Mississippi River flooded back in 2011, it was regarded as one of the largest and the most damaging floods in the United States.
Thousands of homes had to be evacuated due to flood waters that reached between 20 and 30 feet deep.
However, some homeowners decided not to leave, but instead take matters into their own hands by building dykes around their homes. Here’s a few picture you may not have seen.
The flooded Mississippi River was forcing the Yazoo River to flood…. topping its banks where the two meet near Vicksburg causing towns and farms upstream on the Yazoo to flood.
These aerial shot over Vicksburg shows the ominous rise of floodwater around homes.
