Bubbles are like instant magic: They transform a dull area into something fun for kids and adults. But what’s even cooler is how a bubble instantly freezes. Shot on a cold day in Calgary, Canada by photographer Chris Ratzlaff, the amazing transformation can be seen on video and through a series of images.

Here’s how to get the thick bubble solution he used in the video:
200ml warm water
35ml corn syrup
35ml dish soap
2tbs sugar
chill in the freezer
“Then, I keep adding sugar and corn syrup and if they’re still popping. It also helps to have the temperature colder than -20C so they freeze fast. and as little breeze as possible. I’m also not blowing them into the air, but rather straight on to the surface.”
