This Town Lies Inside The National Radio Quiet Zone, Where Wireless Signals Are Illegal

Do you ever freak out when your phone goes dead or when you lose signal?… Well then you would absolutely hate this place. It’s a town where no one has phones, and there’s no Wi-Fi….. anywhere. They also can’t use cordless phones, digital cameras or gasoline engines.

Pocahontas County in West Virginia, falls within the National Radio Quiet Zone. The reason being, because of the Green Bank Telescope. The GBT measures radio waves from throughout the universe, but due to the telescope’s extreme sensitivity, any operating wireless device can have a negative effect on its observations….
