This Ridiculously Powerful 40W Homemade Laser Shotgun Is Pure Insanity

Drake Anthony is only 22 years old and when he isn’t busy studying Chemistry, Physics, and Math at Southern Illinois University, he’s building incredibly powerful lasers.

He’s known as the “DIY Laser Guy” on his YouTube channel and began posting in late 2006.

On his website, his love for science is ever apparent dating back to the tender age of 12 when he ripped apart his first laser pointer.

Drake is sharing his love for science with the world through YouTube and hopes to inspire young people to take up an interest in science as well.

In his latest video, Drake introduces his incredible 40W laser shotgun made up of 8 parallel 5W laser beams.

He was able to manipulate the parallel beams with lenses while the diode array is powered by an enormous lithium polymer battery pack (capable of unloading 250A) and the laser array is regulated by 24 LM317 drivers.

The laser is so powerful, it instantly lights anything on fire that’s in its path and it’s totally legal!
