I bet you never knew that McDonald’s actually had a floating restaurant back in 1986… oh yeah it’s true. It was featured at the popular Vancouver Expo in Canada, and was actually a really great success for a little bit. Sadly though, the restaurant closed after the crowds left, and the “McBarge” (yes… that’s what they called it) now sits unused and neglected in the waters of Burrard Inlet.
It was dubbed the worlds first floating McDonald’s
Here it is when it first opened back in 1986
The cost you ask?? $8 million to build
The outside was designed to look futuristic
The interior featured hardwood floors, potted plants, and spectacular views from large bay windows
And….. that’s it. Never really caught on, and now just sits silently in the water
It’s now visited mainly by photographers and urban explorers
