Atif Saeed, a Pakistani nature photographer, captured this stunning photo of a lion just before it prepared to leap at him. Saeed was shooting at a safari zoo park near Lahore when he seized the opportunity: As he hopped out of his jeep to take the photo of the giant cat, the sound of his lens sparked the lion’s attention.
Saeed estimated that the lion was only about 10 feet away from him before he caught the photo and ran back to the safety of his jeep. Realizing his actions were rather reckless, Saeed vowed he would never do anything like that again.
“I was thinking – I must show the character and status of a lion and this was the only way I could think of to achieve this,” Saeed told the Dailymail. “I was sitting in front of him just near my car and the door of my car was open. I sat on the ground a few feet away, so he was treating me like his prey… I was laughing at that time, but now when I think back about the incident I don’t think I would be able to do it again. It was a pretty close encounter.“
