If you’re ever in Italy and want to see something insanely creepy and morbid, make sure to stop by the Capuchin Catacombs Of Palermo.
There are over 8,000 bodies in these corridors and all of them are preserved, some better than others.
One body in particular stands out unlike all of the others. Her name is Rosalia Lombaro, also known as “Sleeping Beauty” due to the fact that she is so well preserved.
She was embalmed by Alfredo Salafia, and according to Wikipedia, Salafia replaced the girl’s blood with a liquid made of formalin to kill bacteria, alcohol to dry the body, glycerin to keep her from overdrying, salicylic acid to kill fungi, and zinc salts to give her body rigidity.
His secret embalming technique was kept hidden until just recently. Oh, and one more thing, the little girls eyes blink occasionally. Some people think it’s her restless sprint while others think it’s due to the humidity in the catacombs.
