Bushidō literally means “the way of the warrior” and is a Japanese word for the way of the samurai life. You may think it’s a historical term but it’s in fact a more modern term and defines a samurai’s morality. The term stresses frugality, loyalty, martial arts mastery, and honor unto death. In this YouTube video you see an industrial robot vs. sword master, Isao Machii… a five time world record holder.
Project creators analyzed Machii’s sword technique in 3D, which they then replicated using MOTOMAN, an industrial robot. MOTOMAN is able to perform the exact four cuts Machii can. It’s visually stunning and fascinating to watch as it bridges the gap between ancient techniques and modern design.
