In an effort to blur the lines between human and animal behavior, Beth Cavener creates animal sculptures that focus on human psychology when stripped of context. She uses animal bodies to display emotions that are intensely human, awkward, and uncomfortable.
Illustrated in each sculpture is the internal and external struggles that express frustration and the human tendency to want ignore instead of understand. “Something conscious and knowing is captured in their gestures and expressions. An invitation and a rebuke,” writes Cavener on her website.
