You’ve probably never seen a vinyl record this close up before. In this YouTube video, Applied Science is showing us the intricacies of inscribed, modulated spinal grooves using an electronic microscope while delving into the technicalities of stop motion animation of a photograph in the video.
According to Krasnow, the only way to get a good image with the electron microscope was to scan each one separately… by moving the needle 50 microns at a time, scan its position in the groove, and repeat the process until he got the frames he wanted. Then all he had to do was string the frames together.
