There’s a very good reason why these cute little critters are called the happiest animals on earth… I mean seriously… have you not seen their faces?! These little guys are known as Quokka, a small marsupial native Rottnest Island, Australia. They’re gentle little creatures that don’t mind at all taking selfies with the tourists, just don’t touch or you might find yourself paying a fine of up to $300.

Recently, there has been a drastic reduction in population due to dingos and foxes entering Australia over the last several years. They’re actually now listed as “vulnerable”, which is one step below being extinct. Luckily, the Quokka populations are recovering in some areas, thanks to conservation efforts in Australia.
