This Small Town Turned Their Abandoned Walmart Into An Incredible Library

You know what they say, “Everything is bigger in Texas” well now we can add to that old saying. In McAllen, Texas sat a Walmart that eventually shut down. The Walmart took up about 2.5 football fields. What these officials did instead of allowing the giant space to lie to waste is astounding.

Before the renovation

They transformed this giant space into the largest single-floor public library in America. The new library is an extremely modern space equipped with 16 public meeting spaces, 14 public study rooms, 64 computer labs, 10 children’s computer labs, and 2 genealogy computer labs.

The groundwork looks amazing

And what would a space surrounded by books be without a cafe, a used bookstore, and auditorium, and self check-out stations. Even the outside of the library is looks cool! This makes me want to terminate my library card…and head on down to the south of Texas.
