These Incredibly Intricate ‘Hobo Nickels’ Carved From Coins Look Unbelievably Cool

These aren’t your average coins at all. These uniquely carved pieces are called Hobo Nickels, and were designed by Paolo “MrThe” Curcio based in Italy. MrThe describes the nickel as a “scriptural art form involving the creative modification of small-denomination coins, essentially resulting in miniature bas reliefs.”

Curcio a.k.a.,”MrThe” graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sculpture and worked as a jeweler since 2003. The passion he had for metalworking led him to the art of hand engraving in 2011.

Since the 1700s, people have been creatively modifying the faces of coins
