Subodh Gupta is a young contemporary artist who transforms ordinary kitchenware into major works of art. Some hold sacred meanings to Gupta who says, “All these things were part of the way I grew up. They are used in the rituals and ceremonies that were part of my childhood.
Indians either remember them from their youth, or they want to remember them.” The New Delhi artist is famous for her contemporary metal sculptures made of thali pans, bicycles, and milk pails reflecting the economic transformation of his homeland.
The sculptures bring back a sense of nostalgia for Gupta. The sculptures mostly reflect India as a country on the move, fueled by boiling economic growth perpetuating a more materialistic mindset.
