Newly designed gadgets can often times be a hit or a miss. Nonetheless, some of them turn out to be extremely useful, while others, not so much. Designers have various motivations behind these futuristic designs, from providing solutions to existing problems or creating new and futuristic gadgets for consumers to add to their households. Whatever the motivations for their designs, here are a few we thought were extremely unique and useful.



The Epos-Light is a tiny register that can sit at your table as you dine at your favorite restaurants. It has the option for a food and drink menu and even allows you to pay using the device. It’s sent directly to the kitchen.


Here is a fork that actually helps you lose weight by vibrating when it senses you’re eating too fast. Wow! It is even able to upload information to the internet so you may track your progress there.



Lockitron allows you to control the locks on your doors from virtually anywhere in the world. It’s entirely controlled by your phone and it will even tell you if your door has been opened without you there.

Although this water faucet designed by Phillippe Starck looks completely cool, it’s designed to allow you to see the inner workings of your faucet.


This is what I’ve been waiting for, a portable way of getting a caffeine fix. The Minipresso is ultra-portable and great for camping.

On Switch 

This gadget is simple which is what modern homes are aiming for nowadays. The light switch simply turns black when it’s off and when it’s on, the word “on” in blue appears.



This is called the Temescope and it has the ability to gather the forecast from the internet and create the conditions in a display such as thunderstorms, rain and lightning. It’s a Japanese crowd funded project scheduled to be released in mid-2015.

Transparent TV 

It is almost as though you are now watching TV through glass. This unique and first of its kind transparent TV is guaranteed to blend in with any decor. Designer Michael Friebe explains, “As the first of its kind, the Loewe Invisio introduces technical innovation, combining conventional LCD and the latest TOLED display technology. This allows to create non-transparent / solid moving pictures with rich color reproduction and full contrast range from solid black to pristine white.”
