Meet The Mantidfly! A Praying Mantis That Looks Like A Wasp

The Mantidfly or (Mantispidae) is a terrifying and unusual creature that looks like a cross between and praying mantis and wasp.

They have a long prothorax, forelegs modified for catching prey, and a head that looks exactly like a praying mantis. Despite its fearsome appearance, Mantidflies don’t sting and are pretty much harmless to humans.

They can be found in southern parts of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec. They are also widespread in the United States with 10 different species of the Mantidfly located in Texas.

YouTuber Ed Kern was able to catch the big guy and feed him a few flies before flying off. Check it out below!
