Drop a basketball from somewhere high up and it basically just falls straight to the ground…. but add just a little backspin, and something incredibly cool happens.
It’s called the Magnus effect, and in the video below, Derek Muller from Veritasium, will explain exactly why just adding a little spin on a basketball can make travel so dramatically from its expected path.
