At 36 weeks pregnant Erica Nigrelli, a teacher in Texas, died and was forced to have an emergency postmortem C-section before being brought back to life. Her co-workers rushed to her aide after she collapsed on the floor from not feeling well.
Erica was revived long enough for paramedics to rush her to the hospital. CPR was then stopped so the baby could be delivered. “I wasn’t scared,” said Jennifer Longoria, the school nurse. “I knew what I had to do and my team was incredible.”
Baby Elayna was born a healthy 9 pounds and her mother was diagnosed with an undetected heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. She now has a pacemaker inserted in her chest.
Nigrelli and her baby are both happy and healthy.
